Well, the first day of PMA is over and it brought a lot of new Aperture™ information! Much of this is summarized in this Overview article which will continue to expand as we learn more.
The biggest surprise was that Apple brought a beta of Aperture™ 1.1 to the show, running on Intel Macbook Pros and Intel iMacs (in addition to the powerful and venerable G5 desktops).
In fact Aperture is all Apple is at PMA for - the presence of the Intel Mac’s is acknowledged but not really advertised. The whole Apple booth is focused on promoting Aperture with shows through out the day, including an Advanced Aperture show with some useful tips and even an “Aperture in Action” talking about specific flows used for real tasks, such as a recent Karl Lagerfeld fashion show in New York and also Aperture at the Olympics (where many photographers from all over the world got a chance to use Aperture directly after some training from Apple employees).
But most people are probably interested in hearing about new features and some answers to questions posted earlier! To that end InsideAperture has a new article specifically detailing all the new features we could discover in hands-on trials, and also some answers to those same questions posted earlier (many of which were answered by features in the new version of Aperture).
A quick summary of the major new features:
Supports LAB and CMYK spaces for profiling.
DPI option now in export and external editing.
RAW decoder fine tuning and thoughtful support for older RAW conversions.
See the article for more details about these features and other things!
